Bringing your pet to their annual wellness exam allows us to prevent, detect and treat any health issues before they create long-term problems. Based on the information we gather from your pet’s visit, we can create an individualized health care program. If you’re interested in booking your pet’s next appointment, please contact us at 613-258-5745.
When should my pet have their wellness exam?
Many pet owners are not aware that taking a dog or cat to the veterinarian once a year would be like a person seeing their doctor or dentist once every seven years. For healthy adult pets, we recommend yearly visits. For puppies and kittens, we’ll need to see them frequently during the first few weeks of their life. Senior pets should book appointments at least twice a year. Your pet’s health can change quickly, which means we need to regularly monitor them for conditions like cancer, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, heart disease and metabolic problems.
What types of questions will you ask during my pet’s appointment?
In addition to your pet’s physical exam, we ask a variety of questions about their behaviour, lifestyle, nutrition, travel history and general wellbeing. If you have concerns about your pet’s daily routine or would like more support in specific areas of their health, don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What types of screening do you perform at their appointment?
There are standard screenings we perform for pets but we may require further tests if we need more diagnostic information. Some screenings you can expect your pet to have include:
Note: Not all of these tests are performed during exams. Many are only conducted if deemed necessary by the doctor, for example, if any concerning symptoms are detected.
